Translation Technology

Our CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) Tools include:

Translation Memory Tools

itlocal is able to parse text from complex formats, such as FrameMaker or XML files, and store it in a database in order to reuse them and

  • improve consistency of terminology within and across product documentation,

  • accelerate project completion,

  • reduce the overall cost of translation by never translating the same text twice.

CAT & Project Management Tools

CAT Tools offer increased performance in organizing and optimizing the core activities that involve multilingual processes. This includes efficient coordination of translations, systematic translation Quality Control, client review support, and thorough process auditing and reporting.
We also use Project Management Tools to create and manage customized project flow solutions adapted to customer requirements.

Software Localization Tools

These Tools greatly simplify and accelerate the translation of User interfaces and eliminate the need for programming experience from the translators' POV.
By using Software Localization Tools, we can directly handle a large number of software-specific file formats, including executable programs, resource files and XML-based files. We can translate text strings into numerous languages, including Asian languages (Unicode) and Right-To-Left scripts like Hebrew and Arabic.
Our most powerful Software Localization Tool, SDL Passolo, is fully compatible with the Microsoft .NET framework.

Terminology Management

We use SDL Studio to analyze the source file(s) submitted for translation and to identify matches, fuzzy matches, and no matches.
During the translation process, we review and adjust each of these carefully to ensure that they accurately reflect the meaning of the source text and to ensure consistency of terminology.
Our team translates new text (No Matches) and carefully reviews it to ensure that the translation is accurate and complete. Terminology must be consistent and in accordance with the linguistic and cultural characteristics of the targeted locale(s).

Working Together

Compatibility with other TMs

SDL technology supports the TMX (Translation Memory eXchange) standard. This is the vendor-neutral standard for the exchange of TM data created by (CAT) and Localization Tools. The TMX format facilitates the exchange of Translation Memory data between tools and/or translation vendors.
Under these circumstances, the Translation Memories that we build belong to our clients and we will deliver them upon request.

Content Management

Content management refers to how we handle information at the beginning of the project and then through the later stages requiring sharing and maintenance of the content. We focus on those services that allow you to create and update information in several languages.
Translation and localization are the essential factors to consider in content management. Our expert linguists will provide translations that are accurate, consistent, and adequate for the target audience. For global content, we may need multilingual versions, maintained separately for various locales.

Data Simplification

Data Simplification is very important for every translation project. We assess each document, looking for patterns formed by similar sentences and groups of words that can reduce or increase match rates.
We use specific, dedicated software and machine translation to help us  maximize the reused content. We are able to further apply Translation Memories for more discounts, improving speed and further reducing costs, while keeping a high level of translation quality.

Quality Assurance Tools

itlocal uses a number of Quality Assurance Tools to assist with the verification of documents written in markup languages, such as HTML (HyperText Markup Language) and XML (eXtensible Markup Language):

  • SDL TeamWorks – Project Management Tool;

  • SDL Synergy – used for different types of file formats;

  • HTML QA – used in website translation projects;

  • SDL Passolo – used in software localization projects;

  • QA Distiller / Xbench – used for all projects to check issues like inconsistencies, punctuation errors, omissions, formatting problems, etc.;

  • Altova XMLSpy – used in software localization projects, mainly for XML-file based projects.
